about

The first in a series of archival recordings I will be slowly releasing, these are my very first recordings from when I was 12-13 years old recorded in 1990-91.
Frustrated that I couldn't play all my favorite Metallica/Nuclear Assault/D.R.I/etc songs immediately, I learned guitar while writing songs and playing and yelling them into my boombox in my bedroom in the rare moments I had the farm to myself. I knew nothing about playing thrash metal so these are pretty avant-garde in a folksy naive way. I must have gotten my Peavey Rage in '91 because some of the songs are way more fuzzed out. I used to hide the tapes in various places around the farm so my folks wouldn't find them. There were a lot of tapes, many had completely different versions of the same songs (for example “Psychopathic Dreamland”). I would name the “albums” various silly names but the very first one was called “Generic Metal” so I used that here. Only a couple of friends ever heard these at the time. Listening the entire way through this collection is an endurance test and a dare.
